Why are feet injured (need Natural-Style running)

I have had problems with my feet over several years:
  • I have been doing light running (Jogging) for around 10 years.
  • In 2008 I suffered from a significant case of Plantar Fasciitis (Heel pain)
    • Doctor and PyhsioTherapist recommended Orthotics
  • In May 2009 I suffered from a significant case of Metatarsalgia (Ball-Of-Foot pain)
    • Doctor and PyhsioTherapist recommended newer Orthotics and Orthopedic shoes
  • By December 2009 I was finally able to walk normally again, and consider restarting my running.
I was convinced that orthotics were only a crutch, hiding underlying weakness and not solving anything longterm.  That started me searching for information, which lead to the book Born To Run.  Christopher McDougall had asked himself the same question, and that eventually led him to uncover evidence that our modern shoes (especially stability-control sports runners) are hurting our feet and legs, and that the answer is to revert back to natural (non heel-strike) running.

This problem with supportive shoes has since been highlighted in several recent studies and articles, see my blog entry: Natural Running Styles, Books, Minimal Shoes.
